So it’s Sunday morning and Laura (the wife) and I were sitting here watching some Youtube videos. I have taken it upon myself to get her better educated on how the Corsair’s hydraulic wings work VS the TBM Avenger’s swing back wings work. I’m lucky to have a great partner who puts up with this sort of silliness at morning brunch. While looking around I came across this video of the F4U-1 Training movie. Wow, its really cool to see a birdcage canopy Corsair taking flight and to see a factory cockpit with all the various bits in place and working properly. It also gives you more insight to what was required to operate one of these gull wing beauties.
Did you know that the recommenced trim settings for takeoff were –
6 degrees Nose right , 6 Degrees right wing down and about a degree nose up for take off…
This was to counter the torque of the 2800 radial twisting that 13 foot prop!
